"The Star Wars Cantina" Comedy Parody Song was written, produced, and performed by Mark Jonathan Davis.  The music was played by Bryce Johnson, the background vocals were sung by Loretta Mendoza, and the track was engineered by MJD with help from James Arnold Taylor, Rob "Iceman" Izenberg, and Larry "Larry" Morgan.

Because it's a parody of another song (Barry Manilow's 1978 disco hit "Copacabana"), the original song's publishers have not yet granted permission to allow "The Star Wars Cantina" to be sold, not even for charity.  Therefore, unfortunately, the song is not available for purchase on CD at this time.  (If you know Barry Manilow, please have him contact MJD!)

Nonetheless, "The Star Wars Cantina" has become quite popular on the internet via millions of "bootleg" downloads.  It also continues to be one of the most requested songs on the internationally syndicated The Dr. Demento Show, Radio Disney, and on hundreds of other radio stations around the world, including Z100/New York City.

There have been several versions of "The Star Wars Cantina" Comedy Parody Song.  The original first one, recorded in 1996 and released to radio stations in 1997, includes dialogue and sound clips from the original Star Wars trilogy.  This is the version featured above, and in the music video below.

The second version, an unreleased 1999 single remix, included no audio from the movies, but instead featured re-created soundclips and character impersonations (performed by MJD).  This was produced so the song could eventually be released as a single without infringing dialogue use.

A third version is currently in development.  If we are given permission to release it, "The Star Wars Cantina: Final Edition" will include new added lyrics about the prequels, updated sound effects, and an accompanying all-new music video.  But don't hold your breath.

If you think you can help get "The Star Wars Cantina" released by a record label or other media outlet, please contact MJD. And, if you'd like to donate some money to MJD to help pay for his efforts in this regard, please click here for info.

lyrics

Below, you'll find the original lyrics to "The Star Wars Cantina" Comedy Parody Song, written by Mark Jonathan Davis.

"THE STAR WARS CANTINA"
Written by Mark Jonathan Davis

"Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope" (spoken by Princess Leia)

Her name was Leia
She was a princess
With a danish on each ear
And Darth Vader drawing near
So R2-D2
Found Ben Kenobi
He'd have to put the Death Star plans
Into the rebellion's hands
So Luke and Obi-Wan
Had to get to Alderaan
So they stopped into Mos Eisley to have a drink with Han

(CHORUS)
at the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
The weirdest creatures you've ever seen-a
Here at the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
Music and blasters
And old Jedi masters
At the Star Wars....

His name was Solo
He was a pilot
With a blaster at his side
And a smile 12 parsecs wide
There with Chewbacca
He was a wookie
They met with Luke and Obi-Wan
About the Millenium Falcon
Docking bay ninety-four
Stormtroopers at the door
With a flash of Ben's light-saber, now there's an arm on the floor

(REPEAT CHORUS)

"Mos Eisley spaceport...you will never find the more wretched hive
of scum and villainy. We must be cautious." (spoken by Ben Kenobi)

His name was Yoda
He was a muppet
Darth Vader was so bad
And by the way, he's Luke's dad
Luke kissed his sister
His hand got cut-off
In that galaxy far, far away
Luke has had a lousy day
Boba Fett was so mean
Jabba had bad hygiene
Why didn't they all just relax back on Tatooine

(REPEAT CHORUS)

"The force will be with you...always." (spoken by Ben)
